Membership

The West Virginia Association of Professional Soil Scientists recognizes five classes of membership.

Full member

A full member shall be one who meets the following qualifications:

1. A minimum of a bachelor's degree, and at least 30 semester hours in biological, physical, and earth sciences, with a minimum of 15 semester hours in soils, and a minimum of three years experience in soil science mapping, classifying, and interpreting or teaching soils for land use decisions. A master's degree or Ph.D. degree in soils may be substituted for one year of work experience, or

2. A minimum of 10 years work experience in mapping, classifying, and interpreting soils for land use decisions, without the educational requirements, and recommended by three members of the association in good standing.

Associate Member

An associate member is one who meets the following qualifications:

1. A minimum of a bachelor's degree, and at least 30 semester hours in biological, physical, and earth sciences, with a minimum of 15 semester hours in soils, and has less than three years experience in soil science mapping, classifying, and interpreting or teaching soils for land use decisions, or

2. A minimum of five years experience in soil science mapping, classifying, and interpreting soils for land use decisions.

Student Member

A student member shall be any undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a soil science degree in a curriculum approved by the executive council.

Honorary Member

An honorary member shall be one whom the association desires to honor because of outstanding contributions to the profession, state or nation.

Affiliate Member

An affiliate member shall be one who does not qualify under any of the other classifications, but who desires to participate in the advancement of the profession.
